Our Story

Picture of the Vista High School sign in front of the school - used to represent the section called 'our story'Founded in 1936, Vista High School (VHS) has a long tradition as a comprehensive high school serving the needs of the small suburban and rural Vista community. Once the only high school in the Vista Unified School District, VHS is now one three that serves the growing Vista community. As the community changes, so have the needs of students.

To address these changes, a team of eight teachers and 165 juniors piloted a Personalized Learning Academy (PLA) during the 2015-2016 school year. The goal was to create a personalized, social and challenging environment for each student so they leave inspired leaders who are prepared to solve any challenge with an open and empathetic perspective. With support from an XQ Institute award, and together with our community, we are creating a school wide personalized learning environment where we honor the unique strengths, interests and perspectives of each student.
