Freshmen Seminar

Freshmen Wellness is a year-long, interdisciplinary course designed to ease students’ transition to high school and provide them with a strong foundation, grounded in the Seven Dimensions of Wellness and The Habits of Mind™. This course empowers students to develop and sharpen the behaviors and skills crucial for social emotional success in high school and life. Students will engage in creating a supportive learning community, building relationships, resolving conflicts,  and  developing self-awareness and self-management skills. This course will provide strategies to support individual student success. Students will delve into self exploration and have the flexibility to explore college interests and workforce pathways. 
 

Course Goals:

  1. Students will engage in the creation of a supportive learning community by developing collaboration skills, navigating school and community resources, recognizing individual responsibility, and actively practicing good citizenship.
  2. Students will reflect on their personal traits while developing self-awareness and self-management skills in order to take responsibility for their success.
  3. Students will build relationships by practicing empathy and interpersonal communication skills, and by developing conflict resolution strategies. 
  4. Students will prepare themselves for college and the workforce by developing and fostering self-awareness and identifying personal strengths and interests.

 

A-G” Requirement:

This course fulfills one year of a “G” listed Elective (Interdisciplinary) requirement for CSU/UC “A-G”.
California Health Requirement:
This course covers the Health curriculum as mandated by CA Ed Code.
